Talent and Culture Maturity in Surface
We use the Talent Practices Inventory (TPI) to generate a maturity score that helps you understand how your policies and practices compare to peers.
Each question in the TPI is weighed based on importance, and the maturity score is calculated by taking the sum of all questions that are answered in the affirmative divided by the sum of all possible points.

Maturity by Dimension
Each company gets a maturity score that places them on our maturity model, a scale where your placement is determined by how your maturity score compares to benchmark.
You can compare to All Surface customers (the default), your industry, or companies of your size. Maturity model distinctions are as follows:
Early - more than ten percentage points below the benchmark
Building - within ten percentage points of the benchmark
Leading - more than ten percentage points above the benchmark
Innovating - more than 25 percentage points above the benchmark

Surface not only provides an overall maturity score, that score is broken down by ten dimensions that are critical to creating a high performance culture.
Maturity is broken down by two categories (and most questions are tagged with each of these categories):
Employee Lifecycle dimensions - Attract, Hire, Develop, and Engage
Organizational Health Dimensions - Leader and Employee Enablement, Effective Communication, Data-Driven Decision Making, Clear Purpose and Strategy, Growth Mindset, and Inclusive and Fair Practices.
Maturity by Segment
Finally, organizations can choose to assess maturity for different segments of the organization. The Surface admin can indicate that they want a question in the TPI answered by country, region, or department/function. When this option is selected, the Surface admin assigns the correct Segment owner, and that owner is notified via email to answer the questions that have been assigned to them. You can learn more about this in the Segments Help Article.
